My Toxic Reading Traits #booktokconfessions #readerchaos #booksbruisesbaddecisions

Let’s get something straight right out of the gate:
I am not a “perfect reader.”

I don’t read gently.
I don’t read politely.
And I definitely don’t read the way Goodreads etiquette says I should.

I read like I’m looking for a reason to stay up too late and ruin my emotional stability.

So here are my toxic reading traits — not to be cute, not for attention, but because pretending readers are delicate creatures who never side-eye a book is a lie.

1. I judge fast.
If the first chapter doesn’t grab me, I start questioning my life choices.
I’ll keep going for a bit — I’m not heartless — but I’m already watching the book like, “Convince me.”

2. I get bored with filler.
If I can tell you padded the story just to hit a word count?
I notice.
And I will mentally skim with zero remorse.

3. I care more about characters than perfection.
I’ll forgive plot holes before I forgive boring people.
Give me messy, complicated, emotionally unstable characters over flawless storytelling any day.

4. I don’t finish everything.
This one really upsets people.
But if a book isn’t working for me, I don’t force it.
Life is short. My TBR is long. My patience is finite.

5. I hold grudges against books that waste my time.
If a book promises chaos and delivers beige?
I remember.
I may even warn others.

And here’s the thing — none of this makes me a bad reader.
It makes me an honest one.

Reading is personal.
It’s emotional.
It’s subjective.

And if you see yourself in even one of these traits…
Welcome. You’re among your people here.

Tell me yours.
